Strong will, preparation and determination are values that characterize successful people. Scientific theories prove that autosuggestion and techniques that are targeted to personal achievements, help to reach a lifelong objective.

Anyone who has ever set goals like losing weight, running a marathon or undertaking new activities, knows that the simple desire of realizing something isn’t enough. The stimulating trigger has a crucial role in success or failure and motivation represents the key process that starts, guides and maintains the behaviours that are oriented to an objective achievement. For its own nature, with the passage of time, willpower decreases and the capacity of following the initial strength reduces as well. There is a huge difference between feeling motivated and finding in ourselves the ability to carry out personal tasks. One of the late enlightening discover is that willpower is a limited resource. Psychologists claim that the more decisions we take and the strongest our sense of obligation become, the riskiest it is to be a victim of the so called ‘decisional fatigue’ that brings us to give up and to go back to our routine. Being able to reach a goal, a new personal achievement requires a lot of organization, ability of resisting to obstacles and a strong will of keep going despite all the difficulties.

Well, don’t panic: many researches demonstrate that we can actually influence our motivations and self control.

How so? Coaching, or mentoring, how you feel like calling it. The line between the two words is still very blurry and confused.

Coaching is no news. We’ve been hearing about life, business, careers and fitness coaches for a long time now. What’s interesting is how much the need of coaches has rapidly and consistently increased during the last years. I personally believe that its growth is strongly connected to the unreachable expectations that we create for ourselves, to the competition, to the anxiety of being the number one and to our unhealthy lifestyle. As previously said, the more we put on ourselves the more we tend to fail. My facebook page is packed with people sponsoring how they’ve lost weight or found the joy of living by joining motivational communities. Basically we are a mess and we don’t know how to put everything back in order, how to prioritize and where to look for our inner strength.

This is how wekipedia define coaching:

“Coaching is a form of development in which a person called a coach supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance. The learner is sometimes called a coachee. Occasionally, coaching may mean an informal relationship between two people, of whom one has more experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the latter learns.”

We all think and act very differently and we all need very different triggers in order to change so what doesn’t convince me 100% is believing someone else’s words. Is it so simple?

Psychologists argue that coaching is the new fake psychology. There’s no need of a deep introspection and self awareness, everything is based on actions. But is it enough? Once we overcome a big obstacle are we really able to fight the others? Maybe it’s just about learning one method, the one we can apply to all our need.

A bit of awareness wouldn’t be bad though. Once we find our weaknesses we may be able to work on them and eventually become our personal life coach.
